“Generations at Work: Managing the Clash of Veterans, Boomers, Xers, and Nexters in Your Workplace”
It came out several years ago, I just found a copy and it gives good insight and suggestions on how to mediate between the “Baby Boomers, Gen X, Y, etc”… how to listen and be understood, how to hear others and understand them. Suggestions can work in any work setting.
Isn’t that great news? One of the two people that had interviews recieved a job offer today.
If you were on a deserted island, what are the tools you need to have with you to be able to hire candidates?
I think I’d need:
– The Job Description
– Salary information
– The internet to source for candidates
“H.R. Management Applications: Cases, Exercises, Incidents, and Skill Builders”. It’s in a workbook format, and has good exercises. I am going to try to format some interview questions from the activities.
This is an encouraging idea as those of us looking for employment still want to remain “current” in our fields and stay fresh.
As I am continuing with my job search, I must admit I keep the portable phone with me as I go from room to room at home so I’ll be available when prospective employers call, they won’t go to voicemail if I can help it!!! hahaha

I’m so excited for them! 2 of the people in the group will be interviewing next week. They feel confident about answering behavioral questions and they have up to date resumes. I think they’ll do great!! I have my fingers crossed!! 🙂
“Becoming a Strategic Partner in your Organization” on Tues 6/9 thru Recruiting Trends website. It’s 1 hour long, he topic is very relevant in today’s economy.
“Personnel Records: What To Keep, What To Toss” a guideline to follow on proper disposal of disciplinary actions, job applications, attendance records, etc…
I had some friends over a few weeks ago to help them with updating or creating a resume. They have been told that Lay Offs are in the near future with their current employers, so this helped to empower them and not feel so helpless. We were able to put down on paper what their duties and responsibilities are, and emphasized thier strong points.
You could hear the clicking of the laptops as they typed from outside of the house!!!
We are going to get together again this weekend to review the resumes and make any changes/additions they would like. It was great to see them excited and proud about their accomplishments. If we have time after the resumes are done, I think we will work on “Mock Interviews”, and help prepare them for over the phone and in person type of interviews. That is a lot, so I think we might put that off for another time!
It felt so good to talk again about job descriptions, responsibilities, etc…and what they mean. I really miss my work as a Senior Recruiter talking to potential candidates about positions, and this gave me a taste of what I was doing before the Reduction in Force last March.
What else can I do to help these folks?…..
